Student Support and MTSS

The Jones County School District is committed to ensuring every student receives the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports needed to succeed. Through our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), schools use data to identify student needs, implement evidence-based interventions, monitor progress, and partner with families to improve student outcomes. This page provides resources for educators and families to support those efforts.

The Three Tier Instructional Model is a part of State Board Policy 41.1). This model is designed to address student learning with quality classroom instruction and opportunities for intervention. To ensure that the behavioral and academic needs of every student are met, our school district follows this instructional model which consists of three (3)  tiers of instruction:

• Tier 1: Quality classroom instruction based on Mississippi standards.
• Tier 2: Focused supplemental instruction.
• Tier 3: Intensive interventions specifically designed to meet the individual needs of students.

Students who do not respond adequately to Tier I instruction may receive Tier II interventions. Students requiring more intensive support may receive Tier III interventions. Teacher Support Teams (TSTs) use student data to monitor progress and adjust interventions based on individual needs. MTSS supports students through academics, behavior, attendance, and social-emotional learning.

Section 504 is a part of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that prohibits discrimination based upon disability. Section 504 is an anti-discrimination, civil rights statute that requires the needs of students with disabilities to be met as adequately as the needs of the non-disabled are met.
